If you’re a bit of a thespian or love the smell of greasepaint, you probably already know that there are some incredible shows to watch at the theatre. Whether it’s musicals, drama or comedy you fancy, these theatrical venues are famous for delivering that razzle dazzle of the stage.
If you’re going on a holiday or break soon and want to include a theatre visit into your time away, these are the four places to go.
Vienna, Austria
Vienna’s theatres are some of the grandest buildings in the world, and play host to a wide range of music and drama all year round.
Opera at the Theater an der Wien, or a modernist play at the English Theatre (the oldest English language theatre in Europe) or even the incredible Burgtheatre – featuring a rotating stage painted by Gustav Klimt – offer some amazing shows for any culture vulture.
London, England
It’s been 400 years since Shakespeare penned his first ever play in Stratford, England; but London is still a vibrant and exciting place to see not only The Bard’s work, but long-running musicals and some of the best West End productions in history.
Les Miserables, Chicago, The Lion King; you’re spoilt for choice. And if you want to see Shakespeare in his original setting, you can watch one of his plays in the fantastic reconstructed Globe Theatre nearby.

Beijing, China
In 2007, Bejing became the host of the beautiful National Centre for Performing Arts. Colloquially called
‘The Giant Egg’, this eye-catching theatre features all kinds of opera, theatre and musical performances all year round.
Catch some traditional gymnastics and acrobatics at the Tianqiao Acrobatics or Chaoyang, where there’s always a spectacle to remember.
Chicago, USA
Like the song says, you can forget all your troubles and all your cares Downtown. Also known as The
Loop, Chicago’s theatre circuit boasts some famous stages, such as the Chicago and Goodman – the latter of which you can find reviews of over on tripadvisor.
If comedy is more your game, there’s seven days a week of improvisation and stand-up comedy at the wealth of clubs, including Second City where many famous comics get their first laughs.

The closest is of course Chicago…but besides passing through we havent spent much time there. That city scares me at night!

i actually grew up in chicago lived there for 13 years never been to that theater but this past weekend i went to my first ever comedy show in nyc so that was pretty great if im ever in chicago again ill have to make sure thats on the must do list
