Top 7 Reasons why you should buy Google Nexus 7 Tablet

Jul 18, 2012 | Rita

By: James Cridland
The recently launched Google Nexus 7 tablet is the first foray into a market dominated by Apple for this search giant. There is a lot of interest in the Nexus 7 and its possibilities. Here are seven very good reasons why you should invest your money in one.Processing Power

The Nexus 7 really is very impressive when you consider the powerful hardware that it contains under its slender, light shell. It features the Tegra 3 quad-core processor from Nvidia, which has previously been featured in high-end tablets such as the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime. You also get a 12-core graphics chip which will be ideal for the kinds of apps and games that require this kind of power.

The Tegra 3 processor is so good that it even has its own unique range of programs which are specifically designed to harness its power and are not compatible with other Android tablets.

Screen

The Nexus 7 has a seven-inch touchscreen display, which is a fairly standard size for atablet panel in the modern market. However, with a 1280×800 resolution it manages to feature a higher pixel count than many rival seven-inch tablets, giving you more clarity and detail per square inch and also allowingyou to play back 720p HD content without scaling it down to fit a lower-resolution screen.

Portability

Weighing just 340 grams, the Nexus 7 is a full 310 grams lighter than the current generation iPad from Apple. This means that you can carry it with you easily without feeling encumbered and you can also use it for extended periods without any tiredness in your hands or arms.

Many experts agree that the seven-inch tablet size is the more useful option as it balances display area with portability, so if you want to research more broadband info on this site or use apps and games while you are out and about, the Nexus 7 will let you do so with convenience and comfort.

Android 4.1

The Nexus 7 will be the first place to experience the latest iteration of the Android operating system, known as version 4.1 Jelly Bean.Google has made alterations to the interface so that there are even more customisation options available to users who like to adjust the set-up of their homescreens.

It has also introduced the Chrome web browser as standard, which will give you a powerful and fast internet experience which can match a full desktop computer in most areas.

Apps

There are hundreds of thousands of Android apps available via the Google Play service and an eve- increasing number which are designed for big-screen tablets. In terms of choice and price, it is difficult to match Android for software additions, so youcan download apps and continue to improve the functions of the Nexus 7 long after youhave purchased it.

NFC

Google has chosen to endow the Nexus 7 tablet with an integrated NFC (near field communication) chip. This means that it will be compatible with the Google Wallet service which links your payment cards and accounts to your tablet, allowing you to tap the Nexus 7 against compatible kiosks and make purchases when you are on the high street.

NFC is also used for short-range data transfer, so there are plenty of ways to interact with other users. Bear in mind that NFC is still an unusual feature in the tablet market so most other models that you have to consider will not have it on board.

Price

Perhaps the most obvious reason to spend your money on a Nexus 7 tablet is that you will be required to pay quite a small amount when you compare it to its rivals.Starting at £159, the Nexus 7 will cost about the same as a number of other budget Android tablets but it will be several times as powerful and feature hardware which is usually limited to devices that are more than twice the price. This will almost certainly be a key motivating factor that encourages people to buy Google’s first tablet.
