Two years ago I was told my an emergency room doctor that I needed to give up coffee. I was there because my head hurt so bad I couldn’t open my eyes. It turned out that my blood pressure was the culprit. There were a lot of things that she told me I needed to give up and cut back on.
Coffee was one of the big ones, although I deep down never she was right. I drank several large cups of coffee a day and put so much sugar and cream in it that we were buying a twenty-five pound bag of sugar every other month. That is a lot of sugar people! We also had a forty cup coffee maker!
Yep that was us! The first morning I couldn’t have coffee wasn’t so bad because I was on some pain medication and honestly slept that morning away. The next was the one that got me. I wanted there to be some sort of click here and the need for it to be over with.
It was rough and I swear it was like everyone in the world was having coffee all day that day. I know what a drug addict felt like their first day of rehab. It was a tough feeling. The first couple of weeks were probably the worst. Since I was on vacation at the time with my brother and family I had to watch my sister in-law drink her big cup of coffee everyday.
When I came home the first thing I did was get rid of that coffee pot. I bought a smaller one since my mother and uncle still drink it. The smaller pot helped them cut back on their intake as well. Now two years later and I feel much better. I don’t have the headaches as often as I did and only very rarely do I get one as bad as the one that drove me to the emergency room. My blood pressure is under control now as well. I still have moments like when I see a coffee mug that calls to me though.
Which is why I bought my mother some reusable coffee cups over Christmas and I forgot just how hot the outside of those cups can be. I need to order some reusable coffee sleeves for her so she doesn’t burn her hands.
It’s funny the things you forget about coffee once you give it up. I know it’s hot but I didn’t think about it burning her hands when I bought those sleeves. I was just thinking that she would love to be able to carry her coffee with her in the mornings when she took her walk.
The one question I am asked the most is if I miss coffee. Some days yes I miss it very much. Other days it doesn’t bother me at all. It was hard at first but each day it got a little easier. Now if I need something warm in the morning I have a small cup of herbal tea. He gives me just what I need and I don’t have drink a pound of sugar in it. In fact I don’t put any in at all.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

I am glad that you are able to go without coffee, I think most of us are not that strong, I know for myself , I gave up having sugar in my coffee this month will make 2 years and Feb. will make 1 year without milk in my coffee. Now I enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning, sometimes late in the afternoon but mostly only one cup a day, Now I enjoy tea or just drinking water with fruit or lemon in it.
