Once again we have Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar are back as DCI Cassie Stuart and DI Sunil “Sunny” Khan. This season we are dealing with the case of a body found buried in the roadway. I mean there is a point where DCI Stuart makes a remark about the killer stopping and digging up the roadway and how no one ever pays attention to road workers.
The body is that of a young girl who went missing and as the team begins calling families of known missing girls who can see how frustrated they are in the length of the process. When they find the family it is emotional. Even the police officer who was there back when the girl went missing comes and helps as much as he can.
We meet the suspects, four men who with one phone call you know they know one another. Apparently they where renting a house during a new year’s party back during Y2K. There is Dr Tim who has a complaint against him. James a game show host who has control issues, Pete who is the world’s worst salesman and Chris an artist that lives in a van with his dog. Then there is James’ drug-addicted son who has all sorts of issues and seems like too easy a suspect.
There is a point in this season that just shows how much this particular case has affect every detective on it. DCI Stuart takes the remains of the girl home to her family. Rather than put them in a box or bag the detectives took up a collection and purchased a small casket for the remains to travel in. It just shows how much that while this show gives you the mystery, the police procedure, etc it never lets you forget the human tragedy of what has happened.
The victim always plays one of the most important parts. We don’t see them at the beginning and then get them talked about here or there. From the first episode to the last in the season the victim is in every single part.
This season we get a little more into the detectives private lives as well. We see how much the last case still affects DCI Stuart and how overwhelmed she is beginning to feel. We watch her as she tries to date and just struggles not only with her personal life but this case as well. So much so that we are left her leaving the force.
There is a season four int he works so it appears as though she may be coming back to work. Unforgotten is currently available on both PBS Masterpiece and BritBox. If you have watched it or do, let me know what you think about it.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.
