Did you know that one in 10 kids in North America is treated by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals each year? Kids like little Starla who lives in Alabama and whose heart was put to the test while fighting acute myeloid leukemia, a rare blood cell cancer. In 2012 she suffered a seizure that cardiac arrest — with heart function and the odds of survival dropping to a dismal 6 percent. This was after she had already endured three months of chemotherapy. My heart breaks hearing her story!
Starla’s family prayed while she remained in a medically induced coma. AJ McCarron, quarterback for the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, provided some very particular support to the family. Wearing Team Starla bracelet, AJ led the Tide to win the 14th National Championship Game. Starla spent a month in the pediatric intensive care unit enduring a slow-but-sure recovery and was finally strong enough for a fourth round of chemo. She is currently in remission and has normal heart function. Starla has recovered as well as she has because of the support she and her family received. CMN (Children’s Miracle Network) Hospitals funds purchase child life supplies that Starla enjoyed during her hospital stay. Can you imagine your child going through something like that?

I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.
