Getting your lawn beautiful and healthy doesn’t have to be hard. It requires a little bit of sunlight, proper watering, and a few other things we’ll discuss in detail here.
Cut it at the right height
If you have cool-climate grass in your lawn, the best height to cut it at is 1 – 1.5 inches for the first mowing of the year. This way you can remove dead grass and allow more sunlight to reach the crowns of the plant. When the heat is high, raise the blade during the summer to 2 inches or even more, and then lower the blade to the original height for the last cutting of the year. If you have warm-climate grasses, the best height to cut them at will be about half an inch lower than it is for cool-climate grasses. Pay close attention when adjusting your blade height and be sure to measure from a hard surface to the bottom of the mower deck and add a quarter of an inch.
Aerate it
While it’s obvious why grass needs to be cut at appropriate lengths – to get more sunlight, and why it needs to be deeply watered, too many, the term of aerating your lawn is completely foreign. If you noticed the soil in your lawn has become compacted, it’s all the more important to aerate it. The simple way to aerate your lawn is either with a push aerator or a gas-powered aerator. This will allow water, nutrients, and air to penetrate the roots of your lawn, which will make it healthier and help it flourish. Remember, the air is equally important as water, sunlight, and other nutrients.
Water it properly
If you want your lawn to be healthy, you should consider watering it deeply, and less often. While many people may be tempted just to quickly hose it down, this may be doing more damage than it’s doing any good. Consider turning your sprinkler systems on for a longer time so your lawn can deeply absorb the right amount of water because the roots will grow deeper into the soil thus leaving you with a healthier lawn. In addition to this, it’s recommended that your grass should be watered with 1 inch of water, once a week depending on your local weather conditions, grass species as well as soil type.
Use natural fertilizer
In the paragraph above, we talked about convenient ways to get nutrients to your lawn. Nutrients come from various fertilizers, and it’s always a good idea to use natural fertilizers rather than synthetic lawn fertilizers. They are better for the environment, and ultimately for your lawn since they have been proven to work better than synthetics. Furthermore, many studies have shown that natural lawn fertilizers produce greener lawns than synthetics and are healthier options. If you’re wondering what natural fertilizers are, you can find more information online. Talk about efficiency.
Having a lawn and maintaining it is surely not an easy task. You need to do your research, you have to consider a number of things, and it needs a little bit extra of your time. Be sure to use the tips mentioned above to make your lawn more healthy and ultimately healthy.
