Deciding that you are actually going to undertake a form of exercise and get into shape is the first step towards achieving your goal. The benefits of getting fit are so numerous, from helping you lose weight to combating many illnesses and slowing down the aging process. However, no matter how determined you are, we can all suffer from bouts of demotivation. There are many ways you can stay motivated and monitor your improvement, even if you cannot physically see any improvement at first. Here are a few ways to get you to fitness success.
Create Goals
Small incremental goals are superior to staying motivated than having huge, almost completely unachievable goals, at least at your current stage of fitness. Maybe you want to run a marathon but haven’t run in ten years. Instead, focus on running your first kilometer, then a mile, then 5km, etc. Smaller goals and more of them will help keep you focused.
Monitor Your Progress
There are plenty of ways to monitor your progress other than looking at yourself fin the mirror. At first, it may well be difficult to monitor your progress that way. However, you can use a pedometer or download apps. Seeing your times decreasing and your distances increase or your ability to lift heavier weights or bend and stretch further is a huge boost. By tracking yourself and seeing how you have improved, this will help you stay motivated. And eventually, you definitely will see it on the scales and in the mirror.
Variety of Activities
If focusing on one form of exercise seems boring and may put your off, why not perform a variety of different exercises. Aerobic and strength building combined is a great way to increase fitness. Perhaps you can jog and cycle or swim and then do some pilates or yoga. It may even help you go to a dance class, or maybe some form of marshall art may be more beneficial. You can even employ a tool such as a vibrating massage ball to help increase your range of motion. Whatever interests you, go for it.
Get Friends and Family Involved
Sometimes you need a little support to help you through. Recruiting friends or family members to join a class or a gym with you can be a great boost. Also, why not go for walks together, or have family activity days. Anything that helps you get out of the house and burn calories will help you achieve your overall goal.
Habit Build
If you are determined to get fit, you need to develop new habits. If jogging is your activity of choice, you need to try and do this at least three or four times a week. Just going out and doing a distance that suits you this manty time will help you create that new habit. You will soon find that you feel weird if you do not do it. Building healthy habits are essential to your success, and although changing activities will help keep you motivated, having a specific activity to focus on will help you achieve your goal.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.
