How do you teach your children virtues? This is something that can be difficult for sure. It is easy to tell them about virtues, in fact my favorite saying is “Patience is a virtue.” Of course that is usually responded to with a strange look or an “I don’t anything about patience.” Another thing is how to teach our children about virtues when we ourselves are less than virtuous. Thanks to We Choose Virtues I have a little help making my case.
We Choose Virtues sent us their Family Kit to try out and I put it to work right away. The kit includes:
Reusable tools
- Parenting Cards (Teacher cards for families!)
- Virtue Flash Cards for families
- Kids Virtue Poster
- Three Rules Poster
Downloadable/reproducible PDF tools
- Butterfly Awards
- Family Character Assessment
- Kids of VirtueVille Coloring Pages
I hung the two posters up right away and we began learning the 3 Rules. For the kids the idea is that in every decision they make I want them to consider the 3 rules. If they are being kind but disobeying then they need ot go back and consider the first rule. This method has work really well, I have even heard them telling one another which rule the other is breaking. The Kids Virtue Poster is all 12 virtues listed in one place. We use it as a guide to what virtue we are currently working on.
The Flash Cards are where each virtue is listed individually. You can use it to teach the kids what each virtue is all about. Hold it up when they need to remember that virtue or even play one of the games that are listed on the game card. We hang this on the fridge and the kids recite it everyday while we are working on this particular virtue. Putting on the fridge means they see it every single time they open the door. The Parenting Cards are Teacher cards for parents. They provide parents with things like Teachable Moments for the family, Virtue User Challenge, and more.

I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

I would like to use the Family Character Assessment and figure out the first steps in how homeschooling would work for our family. I also would like to try out the Sing-Along Virtue Songs, because my kids love singing.

Comments have to be several sentences long? Seems a bit much to demand, when most people are here to enter the giveaway, and don’t have much to say on a personal level. What’s wrong with being able to just say, “I would love the posters, thanks for the giveaway?” Nevertheless, thanks for hosting the giveaway. I love WCV and would love to have the posters especially!

You can say I would love the posters. Thanks for the giveaway. Google is cracking down on bloggers and short comments like a simple thanks for the giveaway or those that have links in the are now considered bad by Google. That is why things have changed a bit.

I’ve been looking at these for a while, and would really like the parenting cards. The posters would also be a great reminder for all of us.

I love We Choose Virtues. I would love to try their Homeschool Kit or Family Kit. We have the Virtue Cards, but I wish we could have more of their products. That would be awesome!

I’d love to try the homeschool kit. Part of the reason we homeschool is so that we are helping shape our daughter’s character, instead of someone else doing it (or not) all day. This would be a great tool for us to use. Thanks!

I have been wanting to use this program in my homeschool for awhile now. I would love to use the homeschool kit, but the family kit would work for us too!

I have been looking at this curriculum for so long but haven’t found the money in the budget for it! I think the catchy mottos for each trait would be great for my kids to remember.

Looking over the website I would love to try the Homeschool or Family kits to help build character with my children. They look like fantastic tools to encourage children to live their lives a good way. 🙂

I got a complimentary parent card (hat mat) and I would love to have the whole set. Also the coloring book and song book. Songs are the best way to remember things.

I have been almost buying the homeschool kit for over a year. Everytime I put it in my cart and go to buy it something happens and we don’t have the money. I’ve been thinking that the family kit might work for us really well and it’s a little cheaper. I don’t know I just know that I want to get my hands on some of it. 🙂
Amanda says
Wow, this has been on my wish list for so long! Honestly, I’d love to use the entire family kit. I know we would get so much out of it!
Melanie says
We have been planning to use this with my kindergartener next year in homeschool, so the Homeschool kit would work best for us. I’m so excited to use We Choose Virtues – I think it will really speak to my (rather self-centered) 5-year old, and help her learn some consideration – especially for her sister. 🙂

I would really like the whole home school kit. However I have thought of just getting the parent cards for a start. I think it looks like a wonderful product. I would really love to win it.

I’m interested in trying out the family kit. This is my first year homeschooling my twin girls and I’d love to incorporate WCV into their kindergarten year. 🙂

I would love to try the family or homeschooling kit. Thank you!

I think the parenting cards are what I would want to try out first. They seem to be what all else floats around, and where the in-depth teaching is. Then I would say the mini posters. Having these reminders all around would be very helpful in keeping the family on board.

I would like to try the posters and the flashcards. This is the first time I have heard of this program. I am at odds with my son and his attitude so did a search for virtues and found your blog.
