You all know that last year I worked hard to lose weight. Then life happened and I have gained some of it back due to all of the stress and other things. So here I am once again with the resolution to get healthy and lose weight. It is easy to say but it is so hard to do.
For this year I am not going to get on that scale all the time. In fact I may only get on the scale once every couple of months. That way as the numbers go up or down my emotions won’t go through the same ups and downs. There is nothing more depressing than getting on a scale and seeing you have gained weight. I was in a dressing room a couple of weeks ago and I swear I wanted to sit on the floor and just cry. I tried on some pants in my size and while I could get them on they just didn’t have the room for my butt that I really needed so I had to keep trying them on. 15 pairs of pants later I found a pair that fits in all the right places.
What I learned is that I need to lose the weight but that I need to feel better. I stood in that mirror looking at what I had on, sweatpants and a tee, and thought “I look old!” I did, I looked old and frumpy. Like the woman who just didn’t care anymore how she looked. I wore the sweats because they were easy to slide on and off and I knew I would be trying on pants. I was frustrated not just about the pants but the entire trip was enough to make me blow my top. Lesson learned! No more going to the store when I am already frustrated! Not to mention that I need to get moving more and snacking less. I am an emotional and stress eater so the last few months have been full of stress and I have really been eating things that I should not eat at all.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

Sounds like you realize or have learned some things about yourself. Realizing there is a problem is the first step. Maybe when you are stressed you could do something else instead of eating. For me I need to get moving I’m going to try and start walking again. I rarely get on the scale but I’m with you on trying on jeans I just had the same experience recently. It can be tough to find the ones that fit the way you want.

So yesterday I went on a walk for about 30 minutes and it felt great, I hope I can keep doing this at least three times a week. Then it will be interesting to see if I feel more energetic.

I found it much easier when I was younger to lose the weight, I was much more active also, I lost 10 lbs last year and gained some of it back, I’m not making a resolution to lose it but to watch what I eat and eat healthier!

I commend you for giving it another go. I also think it’s good idea to avoid getting on the scale too much, but I wonder if it might be helpful to give yourself goals and then weigh yourself every 3 months or so. I recently heard a story about a young woman who decided to go a year without looking in the mirror, including her wedding day. It seemed to really give her a good sense of basing how she feels off of how she is doing and no focusing so much on her looks.

I have always been difficult to lose weight but do not lose hope that I will achieve my goal this year 2014.

It is very hard losing weight when you are going through a lot in life. I remember right before my wedding it was a very stressful time. It was wonderful planning everything, but so many things going on at the time along with some planning stress made it hard losing a few pounds right before the wedding. I didn’t lose it but it still is the most beautiful day of my life.
I wish you well in going at it again. Eating good and exercise is good for you in so many ways. Have a happy new year!

I’m right there with you. I am putting exercise and diet right at the top of my list for 2014. I haven’t really gained a ton of weight since having my kids, but I exercise less and that had changed my body composition so that I am more fat and less muscle. It’s time to get a handle on it!

Oh I hear you sister! I am not so worried about the number as much as I just want to move and feel healthy. I think I tend to eat more out of boredom and frustration. When I am having a day that my pain level is super high, I find myself snacking more then normal. I just want to try and do something physical each day. Maybe go for a walk, ride the bike, anything that gets me moving. Good luck to you Rita!

Seems like the older I get the easier it is to gain the weight and so much harder to lose it. I seem to turn to food now during times of stress and illness much more than I used to. Not to mention that I just plain hate the winter and the cold. It makes it so much harder to go outside. I have felt those same frustrations when I am in the bathroom getting ready to get in the shower. I am rooting for you! I know you can do it and I will try too!
