WOW! It is so hard to believe that my Shaklee180 journey is almost over. I am nowhere near where I wanted to be but that is okay. There was a time that I would have given up and fallen apart because of that but not now. The last few months have been so full of stress and very personal things that it has been a miracle that I have not reverted to old eating habits. The reason I have not is because of all the weight loss support I have received.
When you are losing weight support is really important. I learned that I needed someone to listen when I had a bad week, to encourage me to go for it and just do it, to hold me accountable. That has made all the difference in the world for me. Weight loss is so much more than just watching what you eat and exercising. Both of those lay a very important part but the one thing I have received in the last five months that I have never received before is the emotional and mental support.
That help came in all sorts of forms from a virtual hug when my world was falling apart to my mom grabbing the sodas out of my hands. The support also came in the most unexpected way; my uncle had not one but three heart-attacks last week and it was an eye opener. He has had them in the past but this was unbelievable. He had surgery and is home doing well but I was really affected by this. The doctor gave him a heart healthy diet plan to stick to and since he lives with us it is a diet we have all began and will continue.

I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

It really does help when you get support from others around you and especially when they take notice to seeing you have actually lost. I know my daughter has been trying to lose (and I should be with her) and whenever I notice she has lost more, I let her know. This has helped her out but she is doing great.

I think the best thing is having the right attitude. I really think your attitude is in the right place. You are more confident in yourself and know you can do it. I think the biggest tip I have is just remember it’s a life style change more then a diet.
Rita says
Thank you Tammy! It is a lifestyle change and a hard one at that.

We all need support when it comes to our weight loss goals. My sister really helps me and supports me with this. I do not know why I want to gravitate to eating foods that are not good for me. My sister goes grocery shopping with me and shows me healthier foods to eat!

I think having a support system when you are working towards a goal can be your own personal coach in some ways. Having a few close friends and family know can make a huge difference. They can give you the positive reinforcement that can encourage you rather than leave you feeling guilty. I also know from personal experience that we tend to look at things in black and white (well, I do quite frequently), and it’s always important to remind ourselves that we’re on a journey and that missteps will occur but it doesn’t mean that if you indulge and find yourself off track, you are automatically a failure. That was just that one time, but you can and will do better next time. Sorry to hear about your uncle.

I think it is so important not to beat yourself up! We are only human and we will screw up, but it is not the end of the world. We have to learn to ask for forgiveness and forgive ourselves. If I eat an ice cream sandwich I tell myself not to the entire time, but I eat it anyway/ It happens. I fully support you! I think you are a wonderful person and I am so sorry about the stresses that have been going on in your life. I am sorry to hear about your uncle too. But try to keep an eye on the prize!
Rita says
I agree and this journey has taught me so much.

I haven’t use the Shaklee System. I do fine with exercise, however the controlled eating is not my strong suit. I think I need a strong support system with the food factor.

I try to diet sometimes just by watching what I eat by cutting out sweets, but I never have much success because my whole family can basically eat all the sweets they want and never gain any weight. And I don’t have enough self control to quit!

I have never been on a diet but I’ve always tried to eat moderately with smaller portion sizes. I am not thin and I could probably stand to lose some weight but in a way I am happy to not gain any weight, I think that is a small victory. Don’t forget to celebrate the small victories.
