I can honestly say I never thought I would be writing a blog post in the middle of a pandemic. This is something we see happen to other countries, watch on television, or read about. However it is here. We have over a hundred cases in Georgia. So far, as of this writing there are none in my county. I live in a a small town but a quick trip to the local grocery store on Monday brought home just how hard this virus has hit even the smallest of towns.
I went to the store that is typically busy a few times a month. It was super busy on this day and what I found made me want to cry. There was no milk, no eggs, no toilet paper, the shelves were almost all bare. They said they got hit hard over the weekend and the truck wouldn’t be here until Wednesday. I got what I could. There was a lady in a mask behind me who looked at me like I was gonna give her the plague. I didn’t wear a mas because I’m not sick. I did use an alcohol wipe to wipe down the buggy before I began pushing it but I do that all the time. I also used hand sanitize after I came out of the store. That got me to thinking.
Wipe Down the Car
We spend so much time in our cars but have we thought about cleaning them? How many of you have been in your car this week along. I know we are all suppose to staying home and I am doing that as much as I can. My trip on Monday was out of need. When I came how I cleaned my car inside and out. I used bleach wipes to wipe down the steering wheel, the dashboard, the seats, the handles, all of it inside. I used the wipes on the outside as well.
Why you ask? Because I realized during my trip that we all only clean the car when we actually clean the car. You know you take it to the car wash or do it at home. Those are the moments when we do that. However, we are now being told to wipe down out surfaces. How many different spots on your car do you touch on a daily basis? How often do you open your trunk?
Monday alone I opened my trunk twice. I touched all of these areas that could potentially be contaminated and I never thought about cleaning them. So, when I got home I gave the car a good wipe down.I my home, we have to be careful on a normal day. My mother and uncle are both over sixty. My uncle is taking Skyrizi which has been a godsend with his psoriasis but can lower his immune system. Not to mention my youngest, Sam, has health issues. Washing hands, not covering our coughs, staying in our rooms when we are sick are all thins we already do.
We are being a bit more aggressive at the moment. We cancelled any appointments that could wait for a couple of weeks, are staying home, and wiping down the surfaces a bit more than normal. Ma used to be a nurse so she is always telling us how to not spread stuff around. Plus she raised four children who were forever sharing their illnesses. I gave my siblings chicken pox. way back when it was still a common occurrence. I actually remember my oldest brother having mumps when it was just the two of us.
However, I never remember my mother or father disinfecting the car. Maybe I am taking it one step too far. But am I really? How many of us wipe down our keyboards? We know that germs tend to live on them so we do it. It is something we have learned. Why not add our cars into the mix. Will I do it forever? No, probably not but I promise I will certainly wipe it down more than I have in the past.
I thought everyone could use a little goodness during this time, so I figured a good giveaway was in order. Something that would help just a little. It’s not much but hopefully it will help a few.

I’m close to panic I’m in NYC…store shelves are empty. My biggest concern is my mom, she is in poor health anyway, and she’s 91 years old. My brother goes riding the subway for no reason (he doesn’t work). I’m terrified he’ll bring the virus home and mom will gone in 5 minutes. Prayers needed!
Sandy Klocinski says
NYC is not alone in having empty grocery shelves. I live in Northern Kentucky…not exactly a hot bed of activity but our grocery is the same way and my daughter lives in Virginia. She said hers are too. It is not that there is not enough to go around…it is that some people are hoarding things like toilet paper, paper towels, canned food, even pet food. Someone I know saw someone literally just sweep everything off the shelf into their cart. The grocery stores have put limits on how many you are of certain items you can buy but it is too easy to get around that by just bringing multiple people and each one taking a cart. I’m praying for your mom.
BobbiJO Pentney says

I already worked from home, so other than no longer going out to dinner, my lifestyle hasn’t changed tremendously.
Allison L says
On one hand, it feels like not much has changed. In terms of day-to-day life, not much has changed for us. I’m a homemaker/stay-at-home mom. My boyfriend is still working, for now. My kids are home from school for at least six weeks, potentially though the end of the school year. That’s different. We’re trying to figure out the logistics of learning at home. So far, so good! We always cook/eat at home, so we’re not missing the closed restaurants. We always keep groceries stocked up, so we’re not out fighting the crowds of people who are ‘panic shopping.’
On the other hand, this all feels so…surreal. I really don’t think I’ve fully wrapped my head around it yet. I’ve had to shut the news off. I’m not really interested in Facebook right now. I’m annoyed (overwhelmed?) with the way people seem to be reacting. To clarify, I’m not saying we shouldn’t be taking this seriously. We absolutely SHOULD be taking it seriously…doing what we can to protect ourselves, our loved ones, our communities, etc. To some people, that means staying home, limiting social interactions, and making the best of it. To others, that apparently means ignoring all advice/warnings and continuing on with life as usual, more of the usual (unproductive) political finger-pointing, and/or getting into fistfights at Costco over the last package of toilet paper.
Tara L says
Trying to remain calm and been working really part time hours at my job it’s crazy they have not yet shut down, and just trying to keep busy and stock what we need/want. It’s a bit of a challenge and kind of sad. I hope every one is being safe and staying inside.

I had a serious illness a while back, so I’m in physical therapy at a nursing home about twenty minutes from home. We’ve been on lockdown for over a week. No visitors. They’re constantly walking around cleaning every surface anyone might touch. Every nurse or aide or admin worker must enter and exit through the front door and their temperature is taken every time they enter. Why so strict? Because the first case in our state was in my hometown, twenty minutes from here. It was actually in the store my brother works at. There are several others in the town now, too. No one wants to see it in a nursing home!

I am pretty much a solitary person anyway so it really hasn’t affected me all that much other than the grocery shelves being empty. I take my fur baby to the park most days and I still go to the grocery. Most other things where I would normally go are closed. I have never liked being in crowded places so that is not an issue since I have always avoided them. Oh, and since the governor ordered the beauty salons closed I ordered some hair clippers on line. My hair is cut very short and I wear it spiked so I’m hoping to do it myself. And if I screw it up, it’s only hair….it will grow back!

I have a job that I am required to show up (911 dispatcher). I’m washing my hands all the time and using hand sanitizer. I am not going anywhere except to get groceries, gas and to work. My mother is in a long term care facility and I haven’t seen her for a few weeks. I desperately would like to see her and talk to her. She doesn’t have a phone because even with her hearing aide, she has a hard time with a phone. I was going to use Skype with her with the facility’s help yesterday but no one was there at that time that could help. I’m hoping tomorrow (Monday), there will be someone there to help us make that happen.
I still haven’t been able to buy toilet paper; thank goodness I have six double rolls left. I am finally able to buy distilled water for my CPAP.

It has really been a challenge without assistance, but we do not want to endanger any of our family or friends by asking for assistance. This is a great time to be moving to a home that is right in the middle of a farm property. Fresh everything, everyday! Thanks for the super giveaway opportunity.
stephanie baker says
Not gonna lie, it’s been rough. We are blessed to have both paychecks still coming in. The hubs is a teacher so he is able to stay home with our girls, I’m in healthcare so I have to work (and overtime a LOT). It was actually my daughter’s birthday yesterday & we partied quarantine style. We bought a frozen pie on our last grocery trip just in case & decorated it with her name in pink icing. I have most of the parents of her friends (she’s 6) phone numbers or even on Facebook so I was able to get most of them to send a birthday wish via video or a picture of something they drew for her. She handled it well, but was mostly disappointed she didn’t get to use her bday gift of concert tickets to her first concert. My birthday is on Sunday & I’m bummed I can’t use my tickets for the hockey game, my current local team versus my hometown, but other than that I probably would only have dinner with my family, anyway, or maybe a happy hour with my friends. Oh, well. A lot of adjustments, but manageable. We have been cleaning a lot, though, but hadn’t thought about the cars. Great tips, that is my plan for the weekend now!

Who many of us are lucky to work remotely and have video happy hours each week. Technology has been a savior in all this. I know so many people who can’t stand their spouse and this is tough for them. Your mom never told you that you’d better be careful who you marry because the possibility of a pandemic! Ha! But seriously WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS. Peace and love to all.

We are both high risk for multiple reasons, so we have been very careful following the stay at home guidelines. shop very early during the senior only hour when there are literally a handful of people in a huge store. My car is basically the same a always but I am very careful withit. Love the cart wipes and I use a couple to wipe down the cart and also to wipe the self checkout area. The wipe goes with me to the car while opening and loading the groceries. I have one that I wipe my hands with after opening my door … and they go into my car trashbag. I cannt understand the number of people who throw wipes and gloves all over the parking lots. Have to believe that their mothers raised them to be better than that.

Well, I broke the heck out of my pinkie toe a couple of days ago, so it’s going about that well. LOL. We stocked up in February before the stores got crazy and it’s been three weeks since we’ve left our yard. I’m going a little stir crazy but we’re really not doing too bad. My hubby already works from home so there weren’t any big changes for him. I’m missing the boy I nanny for and my gym though! It’s given us loads of time to catch up on reading and netflix though!
heather says

The biggest change is that hubby is working from home. I’m a stay-at-home-wife anyway, so I’m used to having the place to myself all day. Now, we spend all the time together. I make sure to go do stuff I want to do in the other room: read, watch TV, workout, etc. I’ve also been mailing friends and family cheerful greeting cards. I always love cards, so mailing them is a fun activity for me – and hopefully it brightens their day too!

It surprising not hard but still tough. I’m required to work from home but my brothers two kids (5 and 2) have no school or babysitter so I have to watch and tutor the 5 yo. I thought being home means I can finally clean and organized but there’s no time. I use my free nights to relax and workout a bit. I’m just thankful I can be home for my niece and nephew, and that my brother still has a job.

Getting through this pandemic alone would be horrible. I feel for those people who don’t have anyone to spend their time with. Having my daughter and my mother around is definitely a blessing every day but even more so now that we have very limited interaction with other people. I’m hoping everyone is doing well out there.

It is essential for my husband to work so my anxiety is really high. I worry so much about him being out since he finished up cancer treatments last year and I know his immune system is not the best. He has stepped up to get our supplies, my 81 yr old mom’s, as well as some elderly neighbors who are unable to get out. I pass time by walking my fur baby, cooking, reading and checking on friends by phone. I am a diabetic so I have stayed in the entire time so at times feel like the walls are closing in LOL. I know staying home is for the best ,as hubby insists, but it is hard to stick to my diabetic diet during this since my stress is high. I hear this from so many. I am sorry to make this so long but maybe I just needed to vent a bit.
Prayers for you and all of our Country! Stay safe! Hopefully this all will be over soon!

VERY VERY grateful for my pets thinking it would be so much harder without them and thankful for a phone and Internet to stay connected in some sort of way. Hopefully warmer days ahead so I can visit my dad from across his porch or do things outside.
