March is a funny month. It sits right between winter’s stubborn grip and spring’s gentle arrival, teasing us with glimpses of warmth before slapping us with a surprise cold front. One day, we’re sipping sweet tea on the porch, basking in the sunshine, and the next, we’re digging out the heavier coats we optimistically packed away. If there’s any lesson to be learned from this unpredictable month, it’s patience.
Waiting for Spring to Finally Arrive
March is a test of endurance. By this point, most of us are done with winter. The holiday cheer is long gone, and we’re ready to see some blooms, feel a little warmth, and stop worrying about whether or not we need an extra layer. But nature doesn’t work on our timeline.
The daffodils may peek out early, only to be covered in frost days later. The trees begin to bud, but then the wind reminds them not to get too comfortable just yet. It’s a slow and steady transition, and no amount of rushing can make it happen faster. March reminds us that some things simply take time, and we’re better off learning to enjoy the in-between moments rather than wishing them away.
Patience in Growth
If you’ve ever tried to grow anything—flowers, vegetables, even an idea—you know that the results don’t come overnight. March is a gardener’s reminder that the best things take time. You can’t rush a bloom, and you can’t will a seed into sprouting just because you’re eager. You have to water, nurture, and trust that growth is happening beneath the surface long before you see it.
This applies to life, too. Whether we’re waiting on personal goals, relationships, or new opportunities, March teaches us that there’s value in the waiting. Growth is happening, even when we can’t see it.
Letting Go of Control
March weather is the ultimate wild card. It refuses to be predictable, no matter how many times you check the forecast. Plans for an outdoor picnic? March might decide to send a rainstorm. Thought you’d wear sandals today? March laughs and drops the temperature by twenty degrees.
It’s a lesson in rolling with the punches. We can plan all we want, but some things are out of our control. The best we can do is adjust, adapt, and maybe keep an extra jacket handy just in case.
Finding Joy in the Transition
There’s something beautiful about this time of year, even in its unpredictability. The slow return of longer days, the moments when you catch a warm breeze that hints at the season ahead, the excitement of planning gardens, vacations, or simply the joy of knowing brighter days are coming.
March reminds us that while waiting isn’t always easy, there’s beauty in the transition. The quiet changes, the anticipation, the small signs of what’s to come—it’s all part of the journey.
So if March has you feeling restless, take a breath. Be patient. Good things are growing, warming, and coming to life—even if they’re taking their sweet time to do it.
I love March. It’s my birthday today.
It was honestly a hard month for me. But I am so happy spring is here and things seem to be turning around! So excited for April! 🙂
I’d never considered March this way, but it makes sense!
March is a great month as it is the “starter” of spring. I am patiently waiting on our daffodils to bloom. Everyone else has flowers but ours are smart and waiting till it really stays warm. lol
I related so much to this post. I am trying to start my gardening, but so cautious of the cold. It’s aggravating because I want my plants to bask in the sunshine.
Very true; I know I struggle with letting go of control!
