I love this show! I watch the new episodes every week on Netflix. There is just something about it that is great fun. Did you know that it is only called The Great British Baking Show for American audiences? that’s right in Britain it is, The Great British Bake Off. It had to be changed in the US because of a copyright held by Pillsbury. One thing that always leaves me scrambling though is what to what when it is over. So I put together a list of shows that make help with the need to bake.
1. THE GREAT BRITISH BAKING SHOW: MASTERCLASS
This show has Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood as they teach you various techniques. I actually love this one because I can learn things that I didn’t know and satisfy my love of baking all in one show.
2. THE GREAT BRITISH BAKING SHOW HOLIDAYS
Who doesn’t love baking for the holidays? This holiday special is everything thing I love about the Great British Baking Show with everything I love about holiday baking. Past contestants as well as the cast of Derry Girls have competed in this special.
3. NADIA BAKES
Nadiya Hussain won the sixth series of The Great British Baking Show, and now she has her own show on Netflix. I love this eight part series. She includes her recipes for desserts and more. I have tried a couple of the things she does on the show and the family has loved them.
4. SUGAR RUSH
This one stresses me out the most of all of them but I still love it. Here you have four professional baking teams competing for a prize of $10,000. There are three rounds where in the first one a team in eliminated and then the same for the second. Winning the second round can get you more time for the final round where just two teams compete. It will have you on the edge of your seat at times.
Each round has a theme but the first round is cupcakes, the second confections, and the final is cakes. They did a hanging chandler cake once that make me hold my breath the entire time. There are actually two other spin offs of this show as well so there is plenty for you to watch and enjoy.
5. ZUMBOS JUST DESSERTS
Pastry chef Adriano Zumbo gives a Willy Wonka Style wonderland in this Netflix hit show, This is certainly one of my favorite shows and there are two seasons. The look of this “factory” is amazing and the desserts that Zumbo creates for the two contestants in the bottom to recreate are amazing. There are plenty of fantasy filled elements that will make you wish you knew how to bake the way this amazing bakers do.
Go Forth and Watch
Now that I have given you some alternatives I am sure you are ready to grab that remote and get to watching. If there are any that you love that I haven’t listed please be sure to let me know in the comments. I am always looking for great new cooking competitions. I love them! I enjoy the family cooking shows as well. My uncle screams out I have five minutes left when I’m cooking after we watch some of these. He says its to make me feel like I am on the show!
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.
