That is the one question that I bet every single one of us can answer when asked. I remember where I was just like it was yesterday! I was actually right in the middle of moving. I got a phone call from my brother who told me that as soon as I was back to the house turn the television on right away because there had been an attack. Which of course I did about twenty minutes later and by then the cell phone lines had gone down. That was the worst for my mother because my sister (whom the rest of like to call #1 because she’s Ma’s favorite) was out-of-town getting married.
With no phone lines there was no way to get in touch with her for hours. I thought Ma was going to climb the walls. I saved the newspaper clippings from the days following the attacks because I wanted my children to know how we felt as a country during that time. Looking back now I can still feel the heartbreak that we all had as a country. It was one of those moments when, in the face of tragedy, you felt proud to be an American because we had pulled together. We were reminded of all of the things that those who came before us fought and suffered for. All the things that we refused to give up or allow anyone to take from us. We don’t do that often but when the chips are down we set aside our differences and stand shoulder to shoulder.

I agree that we will never forget where we were or how we felt that day. I was at work and someone heard it on their radio. Many of us went down to the lunchroom and saw the second plane hit the towers.

I remember exactly where I was on 9/11. I had just gotten to work, and opened my office door, when my boss came in and said something terrible happened. I went with my boss and a lot of coworkers and we went to the exercise room where there was a TV and I stared in total disbelief and watched the twin towers fall! I was so sad and cried for all the people that died that day!!

I just wanted to share that here in my hometown, Green Bay, Wisconsin there is a remembrance event honoring the fire fighters that died. It’s held at Lambeau Field and volunteers climb the same number of stairs and a bell is rung in honor of each fire fighter that lost their life. I know a fire fighter who drives an hour to get here and does it it full gear – just like they did. It’s a pretty incredible event.

Like you I remember like it was yesterday..my daughter came home for lunch and turned on the tv..at first I thought it was a movie they were filming..we turned to another station and there it was..my world started to spin and because we live so close to a nuclear power plant my heart started racing…I went right away to get my other daughter from day care and kept her home for a few days..it was the scariest that I had ever been.

My mom used to say how she remembers every second of every minute of the day that President Kennedy was shot. That is how I feel about 9/11. I remember the color of my sheets, the way the TV anchors were reporting the events, the way I felt, the outfit I wore to work, the look on my husbands face. I remember it in complete detail. A day I will never forget, even if I wanted too, it is seared into memory.

I was on my way to work work when the first plane hit and at work for the others I still cant believe that anybody could hate anyone so much that they would want to kill them and crazy enough to kill themselves in the process. I will never forget!

I love that you saved articles about how we all banded together as a country instead of ones about the tragic attacks. I was in bed sick and my cousin and best friend called after the plane hit the first tower. I remember thinking it had to be an accident. When the second plane hit I was in shock. I called my mom and we were on the phone for hours.
Shannon says
I was at work and everyone was talking about it and I like a lot of people thought that it was a mistake and not an attack and was in shock when the second plane hit. I will never forget that day and I think about it often and all the people that are gone and the people and animals that helped save and find the people.

I was off work with my just 1 and 3.5 year old at home. I just clung to them and was stunned. I was calling my husband and wanted to go get the other kids from school. Calling my older kids to make sure they were OK. I really thought there was going to be more attacks around the US and wanted all of us to be together. It was heartbreaking to see the devastation and loss, and also invoked so much fear for the US population and the world really. It changed all of us and changed the way the world has operated since.

I was living in the Providence, RI metro area. Originally from Maine (where the terrorists flew out of-Portland) and into Boston before they got on the 2nd flights that were hijacked. Hubby was working in Boston at the time construction of a building for Gillette, and I had a dr. appt at RI Hospital in Providence that morning as I was 6 months pregnant. First I stopped off to pay the landlord the rent at his restaurant in Providence and he had the tv on. We watched in horror as video came on of the plane hitting the first tower. Numb, I headed to my appt. to find RI Hospital in a state of emergency lockdown. People were crying everywhere and some first responders were heading that way from RI, as soon as they heard the news-since it was about 4 hrs away. I was there when the 2nd plane hit and had my blood pressure taken-it was very high so the dr. told me to go home and rest. I left Providence for home right before it was put on lockdown due to suspected terrorists on the train and mass transit. My son was still at school and the teachers thought it best that the children have a regular day, so I left it at that, got some take out and was glued to the TV. There was no getting out of Boston for hubby, he said the entire city was on lockdown and he’d be home as soon as he could. Cell phones were jammed, and even regular house lines all circuits were busy. I tried to call my family in Maine and they finally reached me since they had been worried. My 9 yr old came home from school and I put on his cartoons in the living room, went back to my bedroom and stayed there until hubby came home in the early evening. Definitely not something I would want to repeat again, my thoughts and prayers are with those affected to this day.

I had been up late the night before with a sick ct and had fallen asleep with the TV on. I woke up as the news caught the first plane crashing. I thought it was a movie in very bad taste, and then saw the seccond plane come into view. I saw people running and knew it was real.
