Going clothes shopping is a difficult task for most people and for girls especially, it’s one that causes a lot of frustration as you go from shop to shop and try and find the right clothes in the right sizes. Women tend to have three different wardrobe styles:
- Workwear
- Casual wear
- Night life wear
For each of these types of wardrobe, there are different tips and tricks to make the clothes and accessories you choose work for you. The work wardrobe is the one that we use the most, considering on average we all work five days a week. Those five days require a professional look and sometimes that professional look is downright boring. So how can you make your work wardrobe work for you? What can you do to maximize your style and individuality while at the same time, projecting professionalism and poise?

The beginning is a good place to start. Think about the type of office you work in. Are you allowed to wear jeans to work? If not, then you’re looking at suits, plain dresses, skirts and trousers instead of denim. While you’ll agree that when you walk into a shop everything in the ‘work’ sections look monochromatic, there’s ways you can brighten up your outfit each day. If you have to shop online, check out the sales for accessories and utilize any kohls promo codes you come across to bulk buy in the sales too.
It’s easy to stay chic in a professional work outfit when it’s winter. Tights and skirt suits with a blouse look sharp, beautiful and are warm enough to manage through the cold days. When it gets to summer time, the outfits change slightly. Put on your heels but use a lighter denier pair of tights. Add a lighter material dress that still allows you to look professional and keep a blazer with you to pop over the top to instantly smarten your look.
Change your make up style and lipstick colours to add pops of colour to your everyday look and you can do the same with chunky necklaces and bracelets to jazz up a boring black suit. You can add splashes of colour throughout your outfit to make your whole look change. If you have to be stuck in black suits, add a brightly coloured blouse or top underneath the jacket to enhance the overall outfit. Choose suits in paler colours to brighten yourself up and still manage to look smart and professional.
It’s easy to look at your work wardrobe and see navy, black and grey colours and think that monochrome is what you have to go for. You really don’t! Inject your personality into your work life: as long as you’re not adding tattoos to your forehead there’s really no limit on the amount of changes you can make to alter your look every day. Take charge of your work look and wear your confidence in your colours.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

I just went through all my clothes and arranged them so I mix up things more. I put all dress tops together, sweaters/jackets, workout clothes, skirts/dress pants, etc. I feel like I have a “bigger” wardrobe because I’m putting different outfits together now versus always wearing the same combination because they hang together.

This is good information. I have been googling recently about wardrobe styles for work, most everything I have is getting dated, so don’t tend to wear many items, no matter how I try to mix them up.

I used to love shopping, but now it is too much work to walk the malls and look in different shops for clothes. But I do love shopping at Kohl’s because they have tons of really nice clothes in so many styles and they give you Kohl;s cash back when shopping.
