I have had the same handful sheet for a number of years. They are the sheets that my estranged husband and I have used and they have served us well. Recently though in an effort to reclaim myself I have begun changing things in the house. I bought this amazing new bedding set that expresses me more than anyone else. I just felt the need to make the bed mine more than ours.
The old set didn’t really express anyone. The truth is the only piece on that bed above that had anything to do with me is the afghan at the bottom of the bed. My Grandma made that for me when I bought my very first big girl bedding set. It is one of the few things I still have from her and I refuse to turn loose of it. I plan on passing it down to one of the girls later.
This new set is me! It came with everything I needed except for a bed skirt! I am not sure if I am going to use one later on when I get a new bed or not. Right now I left the old one on so no one can see what is under the bed. I also need to decide what color curtains I am going to use. I was thinking about choosing a plain white set so that if I decide to change anything else later on they will still match.
There are many other pieces in the bedroom that I am changing but the simple act of changing the sheets (I purchased a few sets) has made me feel good. Learning that things are now mine has been slow but I know this act has been a huge step. I will share each piece with you as I change it so you can see everything goes from our to mine.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

First- the afghan is beautiful and I love that you are continuing to pass it on. I love new bedding, it seems like such a small change but it feels great, especially the set you choose, the burst of pattern and color is incredible. I think white curtains would be a great choice, you can use colorful tiebacks and valances to match.

Good for you! I love the new comforter set! The bright colors are so you! I think it’s great taking these steps to reclaim things as yours. Plus I am a firm believer that we need our bedrooms to be bright and cheerful. We send so much time in them it should be a place that makes you feel good. I am obsessed with comforters. I have around 8 different ones I rotate on our bed. I think it’s great that you are planning to pass on the afghan your grandmother made. It means a lot to you so in turn it will mean a lot to who ever you choose to pass it on to. I like the idea of white curtains. They go with everything.
