Fantasy Friday: Scotland

Sep. 05, 2014

FantasyFriday

Every Friday at Crossroads Media Hub we share with you a place we would like to visit. Our bloggers share a place on their blogs and we all link up to Fantasy Friday! You can check out all of the bloggers there.  It is a lot of fun and I am sure that you all saw this particular place coming as one of my selection. I mean after all I am loving Outlander and well I really couldn’t help myself. Why not go off to the land that bred Jamie? Actually Scotland is truly beautiful and the place where my ancestors (on one side) come from. So it calls to me in a sense and is actually on my list of the ten places to see before I die!

Scotland Landscape
There is actually an Outlander tours of Scotland and I think that I would love to go on one of these. You get to see the places in the books while enjoying the beauty of the country. You travel down back roads, see Culloden Battlefield, the bronze age Clava Cairns and stone circles. The new visitor centre at Culloden with a detailed  explanation of the battle, the background to the conflict and its brutal aftermath. You also get to see  Inverness, the Fraser of Lovat clan lands, as well Loch Ness and Glenmoriston.

Dunduff-Castle
This the restored castle as it is now.

I would very much like to see Dunduff Castle which is where my family is actually from. Well I should say my mother’s family but it is one of the places I very much want to see. I have seen all of the places my ancestors on my father’s side are from and want to be able to say the same about my mother’s side. It is funny because my mother’s side is actually the easiest to trace. She is equally 50/50 rather than the great mix of things that most Americans are. Her father was Scottish and her mother was Cherokee.

Bagpipers
My brother says he will go with me but there is no way I am getting him into a kilt! Sometimes he can be such a spoiled sport! I mean really wouldn’t just be fair for him to at least try out the kilt. If we do go and I mange to get him into one I will so post a picture because it will be hilarious with his chicken legs!

I have always wanted to see Scotland. My mother’s family was from there, her grandfather being born there. They were of the Ramsay clan, and there’s a lot of cool history the family has been able to trace.
