Changing the Bedroom

Nov. 22, 2017

A few years ago, I finally redid my bedroom in colors that I enjoyed at the time. It was the first time that I didn’t put any thought into making sure that the room was “guy friendly”. When Edgar and I were together I always made sure that the bedroom reflected colors that he would enjoy. Nothing too feminine or overly girly. After all it was shared room. One thing I discovered (when I finally stopped the couple mentality) was that I changed so much of myself for him.

I wouldn’t wear colors that he didn’t like when it came to certain things. I listened to music that he liked because he hated mine. I watched programs he wanted to watch because it was easier than the confrontation. He was very controlling and that it something that I can only see now as I look back. Now I am working more towards making my things my own. The colors that I had changed the bedroom to were nice. In fact, as you can see they were bright and pretty.

They were a little youngish I suppose. I was ready for something more sophisticated. So, when I was given the chance to work with a bedding company I jumped at it. In fact, in the next few weeks you are going to see my bedroom as it begins to become so much more. The first thing that I will show will be the new bedding. Something which I not only needed but love. I had no idea how much a difference thread count made. Trust me it is a HUGE difference!

I have some things planned for the walls as well. That is something that I am still working out but am excited about. I have some furniture to change up as well but that will have to wait a little while. I will replace each piece as my budget allows. I am attempting to do all of this without getting my budget off-track.

As you can see my old colors in there are white, orange, and teal. My new color scheme will be a deep purple (eggplant shade) with grey. I am working hard to ensure that I don’t go overboard with it either. I want the purple to accent the grey nicely without over powering it. I am carrying the scheme over into the bathroom as well. Although there I will be lightening the grey up a bit when it comes to my washcloths. Dark ones tend to bleed their color too much.

Other than the bigger priced items the only small stuff I still need to get are new curtains. I am thinking of doing a sheer grey with a purple over the top of it. As you can see right now they are orange over a white sheer. I like the sheers because I can open the blinds and still have a little bit of privacy. I know if anyone walks up they can see in, but I happen to like sheers.

I promised to show you the entire room when I get it all finished. Stay tuned though over the next few weeks as you watch the bedding and some of the bathroom begin to change. I hope that you all will like the result as much as I do.

I think you are starting new and being true to yourself. This is all very girly and very pretty. Luckily my husband and I both like shades of blue so compromising isn’t difficult.
