The CSB Life Counsel Bible is a bible I didn’t know I needed. Let’s be honest, I have a good dozen or more bibles. Most of us do. I have one that I use for study, one that I take to church (it’s not as messy as my study one), and a smaller one that I use for when I travel. That means I didn’t really need another one but I couldn’t pass this one up. I am so glad that I took a chance on this bible.

First you have a couple of cover options. There is the hardcover which is what I got and then four different leather touch cover options. If I was going to get one of those I would do the green apple. It just jumps out at me and looks like a beautiful cover option. Secondly you get a highly readable, highly reliable text of the Christian Standard Bible. If you will remember I call this translation the modern speech translation. It will read in the language of today.

However that is not the most important thing of this bible in my opinion. This bible will help you with whatever you are facing. There are over 150 articles on topics related to marriage, parenting, relationships, mental health, and so many more. It is like being able to sit down with God (or whomever from the bible) and discuss what you are facing. It’s a way to help you use the bible during some of the most stressful times of your life.

These articles will touch on subjects that are difficult for us in the best of times. Knowing how to cope with a breast cancer diagnosis in a way that honors your faith is something we don’t talk about. Lets be honest, when we receive a life threatening diagnosis the last thing we want to hear from anyone is that God is on our side.

When I was told I had congestive heart failure I felt broken. This is the same illness that took my father from us before he turned fifty. In fact, if I live just two more years I will have lived longer than him. He died at 48 and knowing I have the same thing was hard. The nurse made the comment that “God doesn’t give us more than we can handle” and I wanted to punch her. In my hurt and anger I told her that was not actually a bible quote and she seemed upset. It’s not though he is assumed it comes from “God is faithful; he will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able” (1 Corinthians 10:13 CSB). 

While she meant well and I was simply hurt and angry I just didn’t see God or my faith in that diagnosis. The article on breast cancer helped me more than all the therapy I have gone to in the last two years since being told of my chf.
