If you want to plan a birthday party for the kid in your life who is obsessed with unicorns, then read on!
Throwing a themed party accompanied by gifts for family celebrations can be really successful, provided that you pay attention to the small details. It’s these details that really bring the wow factor and will make your party a success.
Food
The most important part of any party, right? Being closely related to horses, unicorns mostly eat grass. Probably not the most inspired idea for a party feast!
Rather than serving up food for unicorns, you’ll want to think about unicorn-inspired food. Generally this means lots of glitter and lots of color! Some great ideas for unicorn-themed party food are:
- Unicorn marshmallow popcorn. Get yourself some colorful marshmallows and swirl them through popcorn. Dust the top with edible glitter and silver dragees and you’ll have a feast fit for any unicorn lover.
- Multicolored unicorn poop meringues. Kids love a poop joke!
- Unicorn cake. Create a multilayered sponge cake in rainbow colors, and top it off with an impressive horn.
You can also make great use of food that is rainbow colored already, such as skittles or jelly sweets.
Decorations
As with the food, you’ll want to make sure your decor uses lots of color and lots of sparkle.
Use streamers and balloons in rainbow or pastel colors, with the occasional bit of silver or gold thrown in.

Games
Any good party has to have party games! Luckily, there are lots of unicorn party games that you can make good use of.
Some ideas for you to try are:
- Unicorn ring toss. Either set a unicorn horn on the ground, or have someone wear one, and take turns tossing rings to try and get them to land on the horn.
- Pin the horn on the unicorn. This is basically pin the tail on the donkey, only with a horn and a unicorn!
- Craft a unicorn horn. You’ll just need some card, and whatever craft items you have on hand. Glitter works well, as do sequins, feathers, colored pens and paints. Sit the kids around a table and get them to craft their own unicorn horn. They can then wear these for the rest of the party instead of party hats.
- Making unicorn slime! Why do kids love slime so much? It’s a mystery, but one you can make the most out of. All you’ll need is glue and saline solution, and food coloring to make the slime multicolored and therefore unicorn slime.
- Unicorn pass the parcel. A classic for a reason! Simply replace the prizes in each layer with a unicorn themed one, and there you have it.
Dress code
You can make dressing up as unicorns part of the party fun. As mentioned above children can easily craft their own horns, and you could spend some time making tails too.
The benefit of making costumes together as part of the party is that it removes a worry from families who may not have the money to buy or rent an extravagant costume, and it creates an additional activity for them all to enjoy together.
