Life Lately – February 2025 Month in Review

Life Lately – February 2025 Month in Review

February always feels like the month that sneaks in and out before I can catch my breath. One minute, I’m packing away the last of the holiday decorations, and the next, I’m staring at a calendar, wondering how we’re already at the end of the month. This year was no different. February may be short, but it certainly packed a punch—full of little moments, a few unexpected surprises, and, of course, plenty of shenanigans courtesy of Ma and Uncle R. So, let’s dive into what’s been happening around here lately.

The Weather Whiplash of February

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that February weather has no sense of commitment. One day, it’s sunny and almost spring-like, and the next, I’m bundled up like I’m preparing for an Arctic expedition. We had warm afternoons that made me hopeful for an early spring and then cold mornings that reminded me not to pack up my sweaters just yet.

And let’s talk about the wind. I swear it was on a personal mission to knock over every outdoor decoration I own. At one point, I walked outside and found one of my garden gnomes face down in the yard like he had just given up on life. Honestly, same, little buddy.

The Never-Ending Battle with Technology

February was also the month where every piece of technology in my life decided to turn against me. My phone randomly restarted itself more times than I could count. My Wi-Fi picked the absolute worst moments to cut out (right in the middle of an important email, of course). And my laptop? Let’s just say it’s about one slow-loading webpage away from being tossed out the window.

Ma, bless her heart, had her own share of tech troubles. She spent a solid twenty minutes yelling at the remote because she thought the TV wasn’t working, only for me to walk in and realize she had been pointing it at the lamp. Meanwhile, Uncle R decided to “fix” the Wi-Fi by unplugging everything and then wondering why nothing worked. It was a month of patience-testing moments, to say the least.

A Few Wins in the Kitchen

One of my goals this month was to try some new recipes, and I have to say—I had some major victories in the kitchen. I made a homemade gumbo that actually tasted like something from a Southern restaurant, which is a big deal considering my past history with roux-related disasters.

I also experimented with baking, which is usually a gamble in my house. There was a minor incident involving a bundt cake that refused to come out of the pan (we called it “deconstructed cake” and moved on), but overall, I was pretty proud of my efforts. There’s something about cold February nights that just makes you want to turn on the oven and fill the house with the smell of something warm and comforting.

Finding Peace in the Small Things

One thing I really tried to focus on this month was finding little moments of peace. February is such a weird in-between month—it’s still winter, but there are glimpses of spring on the horizon. It’s easy to get stuck in the day-to-day routine without really noticing anything.

So, I made it a point to slow down. I took more evening walks, soaking in those last quiet moments before the world wakes up to spring. I treated myself to afternoon tea breaks (because if there’s ever a month to embrace cozy habits, it’s February). I even picked up journaling again, which reminded me how nice it is to just write for the sake of writing.

Of course, not every moment was peaceful—this is my life we’re talking about—but I did find that stepping away from screens, soaking in simple pleasures, and giving myself permission to pause made a huge difference in how I felt.

Adventures with Ma and Uncle R

No month would be complete without some classic Ma and Uncle R antics. February brought a few particularly memorable moments, including:

  • The Great Coffee Catastrophe: Ma somehow managed to make coffee without actually putting coffee in the machine. So, we woke up to a pot of hot water, and she just stood there looking at it like it had personally betrayed her.
  • The Mystery of the Missing Socks: Uncle R swore up and down that someone was stealing his socks. Turns out, they were all in the same laundry basket he had refused to check.
  • The Coupon Fiasco: Ma decided she was going to use every coupon she had, even if she didn’t need the items. That’s how we ended up with twelve cans of tuna and enough toothpaste to last a lifetime.

Honestly, living with these two is an adventure all on its own. I wouldn’t trade it for anything, but some days, I feel like I’m running a very underfunded sitcom.

Looking Ahead to March

Now that February is wrapping up, I’m actually excited for March. It always feels like a turning point—the days get a little longer, the air gets a little warmer, and you start to remember that spring is actually a thing that exists.

March means spring cleaning (or at least pretending to do it), swapping out winter clothes, and getting ready for Easter. It means maybe, just maybe, putting away the heavy blankets and breaking out some lighter ones. And, of course, it means mentally preparing for whatever nonsense Ma and Uncle R are going to throw my way next.

February may have been short, but it was full of laughter, lessons, and a whole lot of love. Here’s to stepping into March with a fresh mindset, a little more patience, and hopefully, fewer technology malfunctions.

Until next time, friends!

It sounds like you had a super busy month. It’s hard to believe we are at the end of February already. I was snowed in for over a week, then cut my finger and now it’s infected so It hasn’t been a fun month for me.

My month was not too good. The cold weather causes a lot of pain with my RA. I try to do as much as I can.

I was sick for a couple of weeks but it is looking up now. The weather is very unusually hot these days even for Southern Arizona. We just celebrated my brother’s birthday on Monday & he got a rescue cat as a present (he lost his cat, Apollo, last year) he named her Rosie! And she is adorable! 🙂
I was in a bit of a reading slump during this month but looking forward to participating in Realmathon in March and reading some of the ARCs I have to get to! 🙂
I also want to do a bit of Spring Cleaning in March, starting with my bookshelves & living room reorganization.

February was pretty good. I LOVED the snow and we had it a few times. It makes my heart sing! The last few days, however, have been in the high 50s to low 60s which I’m also OK with as the sun has been shining bright!

We had the hot and cold weather where I live too! Right now, it’s back to warm. February seemed to pass quickly for me. I celebrated Valentine’s Day with my daughter and spent time with my son’s family for his birthday. I’ve been mostly working on redoing my budget and trying to declutter my closets.

I moved across the country from the beautiful warm desert to eleven degree snowy NY. It was honestly a really hard month mentally, physically, financially and with work.
