The Covid-19 pandemic has wrought all sorts of change on our day to day routines. For months, many of us found ourselves in lockdown situations where we couldn’t leave our homes other than to collect essentials, such as food and medication. Sure, this has been important in regards to reducing the impact of Covid-19 on our own society and societies around the world, but it has also left many of us feeling lost when it comes to returning to day to day life. As stores open back up, those of us who run brick and mortar premises may be feeling a little out of practice when it comes to making sales on a face to face basis. Here are some top tips that will help to get you back into the swing of things. Hopefully, you’ll be making profits before you know it!
Have a Card Reader
People are more reluctant to use cash as a result of the pandemic. We’re quickly realising that contactless card payments are, by far, the most hygienic (and often more straightforward) way of making purchases on a face to face basis. If you don’t have a credit card machine yet, now is the time to invest in one. This will ensure that people can pay how they like and it can prevent them from leaving your store empty-handed in search of a cash point!
Train Your Staff
Many store assistants don’t actually have much training. Instead, you often see staff in stores milling about, chatting with one another and generally failing to interact with customers. Of course, not every customer will want assistance, but others may be seeking it and failing to provide it to them can see them leave and spend their money with a competitor instead. Why not provide Sales Coaching to all of your floor staff and sales staff to ensure that they can help customers in any way that your customers may need. They should be able to talk about all of the items that the store sells, provide recommendations, be familiar with pricing and more.
Upsell
Of course, upselling can also help to significantly boost profits. If someone is interested in something, explain the benefits of the upgrade or a higher spec version of the product to them. This could entice them into making a higher value purchase instead!
Offer Click and Collect Services
Online retail is increasing in popularity because people like convenience. While selling online is a great option, it’s not the only convenient one for customers. You can also offer click and collect. This can be a free service (beating online competitors who charge shipping) and allows people to drop by your store and make a purchase quickly.
These suggestions may seem straightforward, but so many people are neglecting them. Hopefully, this article can serve as a useful reminder that will help you to make as many sales as you possibly can when your store’s doors reopen!
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

I love ordering online and then just do a pick-up at the store!
