Monday Morning Coffee and Starting Fresh Again

Jun. 29, 2026

Monday Morning Coffee and Starting Fresh Again

There is something about Monday mornings that always feels like a reset button. Some Mondays arrive quietly, while others seem to kick the door open before you have even had your first sip of coffee. Either way, there is usually a moment early in the morning when the house is still relatively quiet and the week ahead feels full of possibility, even if the to-do list already looks a little too long.

By the time late June rolls around, though, Mondays start feeling a little different. Summer has fully settled in by then. The excitement of the season has softened into routines, the heat has become relentless, and everybody seems to be moving just a little slower. Honestly, I think that is perfectly fine.

There was a time when I thought every Monday had to begin with intense motivation, elaborate plans, and enough energy to completely reinvent my life before lunchtime. Now I am much more interested in starting the week gently. A good cup of coffee, a slower morning when possible, and a realistic idea of what actually needs to get done usually works much better than trying to conquer the entire world before noon.

One thing I have learned over the years is that Mondays do not have to feel miserable just because the internet says they should. Somewhere along the way, we all accepted the idea that Monday is automatically the worst day of the week, but honestly, I think a lot depends on how we approach it. If we begin already exhausted, overwhelmed, and expecting the day to go badly, chances are it probably will feel that way.

That does not mean every Monday is magical, of course. Some weeks start with stress before your feet even hit the floor. Emails pile up overnight, laundry somehow multiplies while nobody is looking, and the grocery list starts acting like a full-time job. But even then, there is still something comforting about a new week beginning. It feels like another chance to try again without carrying all of last week’s frustrations quite so heavily.

By the end of June, I also start noticing how quickly summer moves once it truly gets going. June always arrives feeling slow and full of possibility, but suddenly here we are near the end of the month already. The days blur together in that strange summer way where time somehow feels both slower and faster all at once. One minute you are talking about Memorial Day and the next you are realizing July is practically standing at the door waiting its turn.

That is part of why I have been trying harder lately to pay attention to the small things instead of rushing through every week just trying to get to the next one. Monday mornings may never be exciting, but they can still hold small comforts worth noticing. Fresh coffee brewing in the kitchen. A quiet moment before the day fully starts. A clean planner page waiting for the week ahead. Sunlight coming through the window before the afternoon heat settles in.

Those little things matter more than we often realize.

Summer Mondays also seem to invite a slightly softer pace, at least around here. Nobody wants to rush around too much once the afternoon temperatures start climbing. The focus shifts toward getting done what needs doing while still leaving room for slower evenings, simple dinners, and a little breathing room somewhere in the middle of it all.

Honestly, I think we all need more breathing room these days.

So this Monday, especially as June winds down, I am reminding myself that the week does not have to begin perfectly to still be good. I do not need to accomplish everything immediately. I do not need to have every answer or every plan figured out by breakfast. Sometimes the best thing you can do on a Monday is simply begin.

Make the coffee. Open the windows if it is not too hot yet. Write down what matters most and let the rest wait its turn. Take care of what you can, laugh when possible, and give yourself permission to ease into the week instead of fighting your way through it.

After all, summer moves fast enough on its own. We might as well slow down long enough to actually enjoy a little of it along the way.
