Every year, spring sneaks in like a polite but persistent houseguest—showing up just when I’ve made peace with winter and demanding that I start cleaning, planting, and pretending to be an energetic person again. One minute, I’m hibernating under a blanket, and the next, I’m staring at a pile of gardening gloves, a half-finished to-do list, and enough pollen in the air to make me question all my life choices.
Now that spring has fully claimed its territory, here are the undeniable signs that the season has officially taken over my life.
1. The Pollen Apocalypse Has Arrived
Forget robins and blooming flowers—the real first sign of spring is the sudden yellow haze covering everything I own. My car, my porch, my poor outdoor furniture—it all looks like it’s been hit with a pollen bomb. Even if I avoid the outdoors, I still manage to track it inside, which means I’m sneezing in my own home like I just adopted a field of ragweed as a pet.
Spring is beautiful, but it comes with consequences.
2. My Winter Clothes Are in a Pile of Seasonal Confusion
Spring weather has zero consistency. One day, it’s sunny and 75 degrees, and the next, it’s cold enough to reconsider life. This means my wardrobe is currently a mix of:
- Sweaters I’m afraid to pack away too soon
- Short sleeves I optimistically pulled out too early
- A jacket I need in the morning but regret by noon
Dressing for spring is basically layering roulette, and no matter what, I’ll either freeze in the morning or melt in the afternoon.
3. The Annual Gardening Delusion Has Set In
Spring whispers sweet lies into my ear, making me believe that this is the year I will:
- Keep my flower beds perfectly maintained
- Water my plants regularly
- Finally grow herbs that don’t immediately die
Of course, within a month, the weeds will stage a rebellion, I’ll forget to water half of what I planted, and the only thing thriving will be the random tomato plant that appeared from last year’s compost.
But for now? Hope is alive.
4. My To-Do List Has Magically Tripled
Spring brings an unshakable urge to clean, organize, and refresh everything—which sounds great in theory until I realize just how much needs to be done.
- Spring cleaning? Started strong, lost motivation halfway through.
- Organizing closets? Everything is now in “piles to deal with later.”
- Refreshing the porch? It’s pollen-coated again by the time I finish.
Somehow, my to-do list just keeps getting longer, no matter how much I cross off. Spring cleaning might as well be a never-ending cycle of mild disappointment.
5. I Suddenly Feel Pressured to Be “Outdoorsy”
After spending months in hibernation mode, spring rolls in and suddenly everyone wants to go hiking, have picnics, and be outside “enjoying the fresh air.”
I love a good porch-sitting session, but let’s be honest—spring is humid, full of bugs, and occasionally smells like freshly cut grass mixed with allergies. I’ll take my iced tea, a shady spot, and some casual “appreciating the outdoors from a distance.”
6. I Have a Love-Hate Relationship with Springtime Critters
Spring means more sunshine and blooming flowers, but it also means that every bug, squirrel, and mystery creature has come back to life and moved into my yard.
- Bees? Love them. Essential for the ecosystem.
- Mosquitoes? Should be outlawed.
- Squirrels? Entertaining, until they start digging up my flower pots like unpaid landscapers.
And let’s not forget the wasps, who are out here acting like they pay the mortgage.
7. I Have Started Buying More Lemons Than Necessary
For some reason, lemon-flavored everything just feels right this time of year. Lemon pound cake? Yes. Lemon-scented candles? Absolutely. A glass of iced tea with a big ol’ lemon wedge? Spring in a cup.
There’s something about citrus that just fits with the season, and I will not question it.
8. I’m Mentally Planning Summer Before Spring is Even Over
Spring is barely in full bloom, and yet I’ve already caught myself thinking ahead to summer. Should I take a beach trip? Do I need a new pair of sandals? Will I actually get around to finishing that summer reading list?
The answer to most of these is probably not, but it won’t stop me from pretending that this is the year I become the kind of person who plans things in advance.
Final Thoughts: Accepting the Chaos of Spring
At the end of the day, spring is a mix of beauty, chaos, and sneezing fits. It’s the season of overambitious gardening, unpredictable weather, and giving up on ever having a clean car again.
But despite the pollen, the to-do lists, and the constant temperature confusion, there’s something about this season that makes me happy every year.
So, even though my garden will never be Pinterest-worthy, my closet will always be a disaster, and I will probably continue to complain about bugs, I’m going to soak it all in—because spring may be a mess, but it’s a beautiful one.
I so love the spring season it is so pretty here right now with the flowers, blooming trees and green fields.
I love Spring, I enjoy working in the garden.
