You all know how much we love to donate and help other people. That is one of the biggest things that I hope I have managed to give to my children, a sense of giving back. That is why I was thrilled to team up with Champions For Kids and Dole to give back to the kids in our community. Champions For Kids and Dole have partner throughout the month of August creating a program called SIMPLE Service Projects with the purpose of encouraging people to host or organize an event to collect snack foods that you would then donate to a local organization that serves children in need, such as a food pantry, after-school program or daycare center.
Champions for Kids makes giving to children simple and they seek to ignite generational change by fostering a “habit of giving” among the youth of America. That is something I can respect and get behind. Dole offers a variety of snacks such as their Dole Fruit Squish’ems squeezable fruit pouches, and Dole Fruit Bowls that are portable and perfect for on the go nutrition. Which kids love let me tell you! We decided that we would keep things pretty simple and have our fiends come over for a great day of food and fun. Rather than bring a dish though we asked that they bring a snack or other food item that can be donated to our local food bank, Focus.
We ended up with a lot of food as our friends are all wonderful! Everyone brought at least one bag of food rather than one box or so. We loaded everything up after we sorted through it all, checked expiration dates and such and then headed to Focus. They only give out food two days a week here and usually there is a really big line. So making sure the shelves were stocked for the month were very important to all of us.
Everyone helped get things taken car of and to be honest I couldn’t have been more please with our family and friends. They all pulled together for a cause that they know is very near and dear to me. You can help the kids in your area as well! You can donate to your local food bank (if you need to find one you can do that here) or maybe there is another cause that your community is in need of help with. Champions for Kids shares 4 easy steps at http://championsforkids.org/dole/ that will help you get started!
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

Rita it is wonderful how much you guys did to help others in your community! Like you, I hope my kids have learned that giving back to others is very important. I have tried to teach my kids that there is always others that need a helping hand. Even if it’s just a smile.

What a great way to get the kids involved in giving back. Kids can certainly relate to having or not having enough food.

I love when families, friends, and getting the kids involved to come together to give back to a great cause. Glad to see all this food was collected and donated to people who need it. What a great act of kindness.
