There’s something special about a summer drink. Maybe it’s the clink of ice cubes in a mason jar, or the way condensation trails down the glass while you sit in a rocking chair with your feet tucked up under you, watching the world spin slowly by. Here in the South, we don’t need a fancy occasion to enjoy a cool beverage—it’s practically part of our survival strategy once June rolls in and the heat starts settling on our shoulders like a wool blanket.
Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I enjoy a sweet tea as much as the next Southern gal, and lemonade is a staple that never goes out of style, but sometimes you want something just a little different. A little fancier, perhaps. Something you can serve in a pretty glass with a sprig of mint or a wedge of fruit and feel like you’ve done something indulgent without ever leaving your porch.
That’s where summer mocktails come in. These are not your average juice-and-soda concoctions. These are fresh, layered, and bursting with the kind of flavors that feel like a treat. And the best part? No alcohol required. You can serve these to the kids, the grandparents, your book club, or just yourself on a quiet Sunday afternoon. Trust me, no one’s going to miss the booze when they taste how good these are.
Over the last few weeks, I’ve been playing around with different flavor combinations. Some were hits, others not so much (note to self: jalapeño and watermelon don’t mix the way you think they will). But after plenty of testing—and a few raised eyebrows from Ma, who asked more than once why I was muddling basil in her good teacups—I’ve landed on three winning recipes that are equal parts refreshing, beautiful, and easy to whip up.
These mocktails are summer in a glass. Whether you’re hosting a porch party, cooling off after a day of gardening, or just looking for a new way to dress up your daily hydration, I’ve got you covered.
So grab a handful of fresh herbs, your favorite pitcher, and some ice—you’re about to make summer even sweeter.
1. Blackberry Mint Fizz
This one might be my favorite of the three because it tastes like something you’d order at a fancy café, but it’s so easy to make. Blackberries are at their best this time of year—sweet, juicy, and just tart enough to make your taste buds stand up and dance. Paired with cool mint and a little fizz, it’s a porch-sippin’ dream come true.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup fresh blackberries
- 6 fresh mint leaves
- 1 tablespoon honey or simple syrup
- 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
- Sparkling water or club soda
- Ice
In a glass or cocktail shaker, muddle the blackberries and mint with honey and lime juice until the berries are thoroughly crushed. Strain into a tall glass filled with ice (or leave it unstrained for a more rustic look). Top with sparkling water, stir gently, and garnish with a mint sprig and a few whole blackberries.
2. Peach Basil Cooler
Nothing says summer in the South quite like peaches. And when they’re ripe, you want to use them in everything—from cobbler to ice cream to drinks like this one. The peach pairs beautifully with fresh basil, creating a subtly sweet and slightly savory mocktail that feels fancy but familiar.
Ingredients:
- 1 ripe peach, peeled and sliced
- 4–5 basil leaves
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon agave nectar or honey (optional, depending on sweetness of peach)
- 1/2 cup cold water or still mineral water
- Ice
In a blender, combine the peach, basil, lemon juice, sweetener (if using), and water. Blend until smooth. Strain through a fine mesh sieve if you prefer a smoother drink. Pour over ice in a chilled glass and garnish with a fresh basil leaf and peach slice. It’s light, fragrant, and perfect for a sunny afternoon.
3. Cucumber Melon Spritz
This one is like a spa day in a glass. Cool cucumber, sweet melon, and a little citrus make this mocktail impossibly refreshing. It’s great after yard work or a day spent chasing chickens (or toddlers). I like to make a big batch of this in a pitcher and keep it in the fridge—it gets even better after a few hours as the flavors meld.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup cubed honeydew or cantaloupe
- 1/4 cucumber, peeled and sliced
- Juice of 1 lime
- 1 tablespoon simple syrup (optional)
- Sparkling water
- Ice
Muddle the melon and cucumber in a bowl or shaker until juicy. Add the lime juice and simple syrup, then strain into a glass over ice. Top with sparkling water and garnish with a cucumber ribbon or melon ball on a skewer for a fancy touch.
Each of these drinks offers something a little different—whether it’s fruity, herbal, or light and crisp—but they all deliver that same sense of ahhh you get when you sit down with something cold and delicious on a hot day.
And while they’re beautiful enough for special occasions (baby showers, bridal brunches, Sunday dinners with family), they’re easy enough to whip up just because. I think that’s what I love most about them. They remind me that taking a little time to treat yourself isn’t something that needs a reason. Especially in summer, when everything slows down and you’re given permission to take a break from the hustle.
So go ahead—pour yourself a glass, find a shady spot, and sip slow. Summer won’t last forever, but these mocktails make it feel like it just might.

Can’t wait to try these!
Really want to try all of these. Peach Basil sounds so yummy!
