Vital Supplements for Women’s Health

Your body needs certain vitamins and minerals for health, and you get most of these from your food and drink. Yet it can be hard to get all of what you need, and some are vital for women’s health. From fish oils for brain health to magnesium for relieving cramps, here are a few.

Strong Bones with Calcium and Vitamin D

Calcium and vitamin D are essential for building strong bones and teeth. Calcium is easy to get into your diet, but restrictions may mean you don’t get enough. For example, most calcium comes from cheese and milk. So, as a vegan, you may not get what you need. Fortunately, athleticstore.org has plenty of vegan supplement options. As for vitamin D, you can get most of what you need from ten minutes in the sun. But fish and cod liver oil contain a high amount.

Fish Oils and Omega 3 for the Heart

Further to fish oils, you need to consume certain ones for optimal heart health. The omega-3 found in fish oils helps your heart and blood vessels function properly. These are also highly beneficial if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. You should also take these supplements if you don’t eat fish often. If you do eat fish, salmon, tuna, and mackerel are great sources of omega-3. It has also been shown to contribute to better overall brain function, especially as you age.

Supplements for Women’s Health include Folate

You probably know that folate is essential when you are pregnant. This is because folic acid helps form the neural tube and can prevent early fetal development defects in the womb. Foods that contain folate include dark leafy greens, nuts, and fresh fruit. However, it is always recommended that you take extra folate just in case you aren’t getting enough. Around 400 mcg per day is recommended, but try to increase this to 600 mcg when you are pregnant or feeding.

Magnesium for Your Body

One of the most critical minerals your body needs is magnesium. Magnesium plays a key role and does numerous jobs in your body. Mainly, it helps with ensuring your body produces the right biochemical reactions. As a woman, it can have extra benefits, too. Magnesium supplements can help maintain blood sugar, blood pressure, and nerve function. All of these combined will help you have easier periods and reduce or eliminate the number of cramps.

Protect the Eyes with Lutein

Lutein is a vital nutrient for overall health. You can find lutein in foods, fruits, and vegetables that have vibrant and rich colors, like oranges, eggs, and dark leafy greens. It is an antioxidant that helps fight free radicals in the body but also has major benefits for your eyes. Lutein is known to combat age-related macular degeneration. This is an eye illness that gets worse as you age, causing blurred vision. Take this if there is a history of eye issues within your family.

Summary

Calcium and vitamin D are vital supplements for women’s health as they build stronger bones and teeth. Folate is also a recommended supplement if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. And you can help keep your eyes in better shape as you age with lutein supplements.
