There are two kinds of vacations. The one where you spend much of your time rushing from place to place and then you get home feeling like you need another vacation. You know what I am talking about. The one to those theme parks or other tourist destinations that leave you just wiped out.
The other kind is the best kind in my opinion. It is the true vacation where you slow down and enjoy where you are. You don’t bother with alarms or schedules. You have breakfast at noon because that is when you woke up. You nap at five in the afternoon because you can.
Over the years I have learned that choosing the right place to stay is as important as deciding where to go. Let’s face it, we have all at one point or another chosen a hotel because the price was so good we couldn’t believe the deal we were getting. Only when we got there did we realize why we were getting such a great deal. Now, I look for a place that is comfortable and has everything I am looking for to make my vacation a relaxing one. Not one where I come home feeling more tired or stressed than when I left.
Vacation Looks Different for Everyone
I know that everyone is going to have a different idea of the perfect vacation. Some people want to be in the middle of a large bustling city. They want to be close to all of the restaurants, shopping, and attractions available. I love a good city vacation sometimes. I love being able to have a place that offers everything that home doesn’t. While at other times, like many, I want to be somewhere quiet. Where if I decide to sleep the day away there will be no noise or neighbors to interrupt that. I don’t always need every restaurant right at my fingertips. I don’t mind going and exploring small towns or out of the way places.
There is No Wrong or Right Choice
That is the best thing about a vacation. There is no wrong or right overall choice. The only thing is finding the right choice for your ideal vacation. Finding the accommodations that will match the experience you’re hoping to have. For example, if you are planning a visit to Queensland’s beautiful Sunshine Coast, choosing the right noosa accommodation can help you not only find everything the area has to offer but help give you a comfortable place to relax at the end of each day.
Make Yourself at Home
The best feature I appreciate when traveling is having a little extra space. I don’t want to be cramped. I want to have the space to prepare breakfast before heading out for the day, enjoy a quiet cup of coffee on a balcony, or simply spread out instead of living out of a suitcase. It is all those little things that can make a vacation feel much more comfortable.
It has become even more important when traveling with Ma and Uncle R. We need the space to have our own space if you know what I mean. Traveling with kids can mean needing a little more space as well. You have to be able to feel as though you all fit. There is nothing worse than to have to cram everyone into a small space. To this day I will never forget the month my family spent in a hotel room while waiting in our house to be ready. Six people in a two bed room. That meant four kids in one queen size bed. My older brother and I took turns sleeping on a pallet on the floor each night. It was awful!
Leave Room for Unexpected Adventures
Of course some of the best travel memories happen when you aren’t following a strict schedule. I remember wandering around a small island going through the various shops just getting lost. It is one of the best vacation memories I have. No set schedule, no place to be. Just me being able to walk around and feel free to do whatever I like.
The little out of the way restaurant that I ate at and to this day remains the best seafood I have ever eaten. I didn’t even bother to look at the name. There were no pictures or selfies taken that day. There was just the experience that lives on in my memories. You discover a local shop you hadn’t planned to visit. I remember heading back to the little bungalow I was staying at and just collapsing from all of the walking I did.
That’s one reason I like choosing accommodations that offer flexibility and comfort. Knowing you have a welcoming place to return to makes it easier to enjoy the day without feeling rushed.
Travel Is About More Than Checking Off Attractions
One of the easiest things to do is to fill every hour of a vacation with activities, but sometimes the moments you’ll remember most happen during the quiet parts of the trip. Getting up early to see the sunrise on the beach even though we really didn’t want to get up. I have never forgotten that and it remains in my memory forever.
No matter where your travels take you next, spending a little extra time choosing accommodations that fit your style can make the entire experience more enjoyable. A comfortable place to relax, recharge, and feel at home allows you to focus on what really matters: making memories you’ll be talking about long after you’ve unpacked your suitcase.
