My Mexican Kitchen: Mexican Candy

Jul. 28, 2012

My Mexican Kitchen

That’s right there is such a thing as Mexican candy. I first had Mexican candy from a friend when I was in high school and I really loved it but never knew the name or had any again until I married my hubby. Now Mexican candy is a staple in our home and usually ends up in the kids holiday baskets and stockings.

Alpina Arequipe Dulce De Leche Caramel

My favorite candy is Dulce de Leche which is pretty caramel but you have not ever had anything like this. This is the richest, creamiest (wait I have to go get get some…….okay I’m back) stuff you will ever have. I not only eat this but sometimes add a little to plain milk and make it better or even to cake and cookie mixes just to give them a little something extra.

Delicias Del Triunfo Coconut Rolls

My mom (surprisingly) has favorite candy too, it’s Dulces de Coco. She loves the toasted roll version of it the best and we have to keep these in the house or she is very unhappy. We hide a few just in case!  If you are a fan of toasted coconut then this is the candy for you. It is sort of like that three colored (I have no idea what the name of it is) candy that you use to could get from the vending machine.

Pico Diana Pinata Mix

Finally, if you have kids then you must have at least one bag of Pinata Mix (sometimes called Mexican Fiesta Assorted Mix) around the house. I buy these for parties, Halloween, and various other times that I need a variety of candy. It has a little of everything that kids go nuts for. Plus a couple of bags will fill a pinata in no time.

My husband is Hispanic and he likes Mexican candy, but I do not haha. I know it’s not made with the same chemicals and processes as “American” candy. It is definitely an acquired taste.
